How Many Sushi Calories You Can Expect

With a growing trend toward nutritional choices in the eating habits of the population, the quick and easy Japanese snack option have come into the spotlight. Sushi calories are a concern for many dieters since this is a tasteful alternative. These fantastic snacks are typically have a low caloric count, however it varies by the combinations that the individual chooses. Most common toppings are egg, eel, shrimp, octopus, and squid. Because of the variety offered in topping choices the caloric value changes but averages at about 100.

A very popular form of sushi is the roll, or norimaki. There is a wide selection for this mini meal as well, since the primary ingredient is the seaweed roll with sticky rice. The normal filling is some form of seafood, which again changes the amount to be expected for calories, but stays around 100.

Lunch box sushi is presented in a very distinguished way. Oshizushi was given this nickname because it is a fish patty that is mashed into a wooden box. This traveling snack also provides a caloric intake of about 100.

Temaki is a cone shaped snack made from nori seaweed that has been filled with rice, vegetables, and some form of seafood. Temakizushi, literally translated means hand rolls. This great finger food contains about 200 calories.

This is traditionally consumed during special occasions in Japan, however, the West has changed that habit. The food can be considered a snack that is made with rice, usually short sticky rice, and the distinctive sushi vinegar. The vinegar is the key reason it is considered this type of snack, these same combinations can be found without the vinegar, but called by a different name.

These snacks have many possibilities when it comes to choices which can greatly affect the sushi calories. People who are strictly following a caloric intake will often remove or simply not eat the rice that comes with the food. These are a great source of nutrition, but be cautious of the consumption of raw foods.
